The Designers Republic (tDR for short) was a graphic design studio, founded on 14 July 1986 by Ian Anderson, and based in Sheffield, England. It was known for its anti-establishment aesthetics, while simultaneously embracing brash consumerism and the uniform style of corporate brands, such as Orange and Coca-Cola. The studio closed in January 2009, though Anderson has stated that “[The Designers Republic] will go forward after this”.
2 -Vault 49
Jonathan Kenyon and John Glasgow founded Vault49 in 2002, having met on the graphic design degree course of the London College of Printing. Since then they have worked together as graphic designers and art directors of a variety of private and commercial projects. Vault49’s client list reads as a who’s who of the advertising world, and includes such notable agencies as M&C Saatchi, Leo Burnett, and Ogilvy and Mather. Vault49 have worked directly with such clients as MTV, Greenpeace, the BBC, Cancer Research UK, and Honda.
3 – Johanna Basford
“Inspired by my upbringing on a small fish farm in rural Aberdeenshire, Scotland, much of my work has roots in the flora and fauna that I grew up with. My wandering imagination and passion for drawing took me to Art School in Dundee, where I graduated with a first class honours degree in Printed Textiles in 2005.”

5 – David Carson
David Carson is an American graphic designer. He is best known for his innovative magazine design, and use of experimental typography. He was the art director for the magazine Ray Gun. Carson was perhaps the most influential graphic designer of the nineties. In particular, his widely-imitated aesthetic defined the so-called “grunge” era.
6 – Alex Ostrowski
“I am an ideas-led graphic designer also taking on projects in art direction and illustration. Having spent time with a number of London studios from Big Active to NB: Studio, I am now producing a range of creative work for clients including The Guardian, Phaidon and Fedrigoni. In 2008 I won the RSA Design Directions Award, and have also been featured in publications including Design Week and Creative Review. Many of my personal projects are based around people and happiness, two subjects which have led me to appreciate design’s potential to reach people and do good.”
7 – Johanna Lundberg
“Originally from Sweden, Johanna Lundberg graduated from the London College of Communication in 2008 and is currently based in East London, working as part of the multi-disciplinary creative studio Åh. I strive to combine thoughtful ideas with informed aesthetics to create functional design that reaches out to both the head and the heart. Applied across all disciplines to include art direction, illustration, branding, website design, motion graphics, model making and other printed matter, my approach to work is open and collaborative.”
8 - Neville Brody
Neville Brody (born 23 April 1957 in London) is an English graphic designer, typographer and art director.
Neville Brody is an alumnus of the London College of Printing and Hornsey College of Art, and is known for his work on The Face magazine (1981–1986) and Arena magazine (1987–1990), as well as for designing record covers for artists such as Cabaret Voltaire and Depeche Mode. He created the company Research Studios in 1994 and is a founding member of Fontworks.
9 – Adam Morris
“Adam Morris is a London based graphic designer specialising in branding and print design.
After graduating from Manchester School of Art studying Design and Art Direction he relocated to London where he now lives and works with a growing list of clients from a wide range of backgrounds, including cultural and arts based projects.
Adam develops and creates new brands, designs for print and web to create work that is appropriate, ideas-led and engaging to its audience.”
10 – YCN
YCN create projects and platforms to showcase emerging talent; as well as producing design, campaigns and other communication for varied clients. The ground floor at 72 Rivington Street is open publicly daily, to present the outcomes of YCN projects alongside other creative work and products.

11 – Yulia Brodskaya
Yulia Brodskaya was born in Russia (Moscow); prior to moving to the UK in 2004 she was interested in diverse creative practices ranging from Textile Painting, Origami and Collage to more traditional Fine Art practices. Following an MA in Graphic Communication (2006, University of Hertfordshire) she has continued to experiment and explore ways of bringing together all the things she likes most: typography, paper, and highly detailed hand-made craft objects.
