Well Dad is having an office space built outside so that I can paint in my own little studio space, and he can do his thing in his own separate office room. I have been documenting it with photographs along the way and I’m going to put the photos on here so that anyone can see the construction from day one till the end =)

Here are some of the photos from the progress so far..

Day one – Thursday 9th September 2010

in the words of 7 little men…”We dig dig dig dig dig dig dig dig dig the whole way through!”

Show us your muscles Dad! =)

Look at all that rubble…

Put your back into it.

Thats better hehe

Is it straight enough??

Woaw it’s almost as big as you dad.

Hi Mum *Waves*

Hey look Dad has figured out how to work the digger…

…oh maybe not.

Look at all that dirt

Site Manager AKA Dad

Seems alot of dirt from such a shallow ditch

And look at all that rubbish, wire, roots, concrete you name it, it’s there!

Lunch break!

Starting to dig out the foundations for the Office YAY!

Hi

Hahaha now we all know it isn’t that deep Dad!

I love how the sunlight is streaming onto the section that is being dug up.

Almost done

Day Two – Friday 10th September 2010

Wacker Wacker Wacker

Looks small now but when the walls go up!

ooooow deep

look at all those bricks… you wouldn’t think there was about 1500 there!

Hello house… how are you holding up?

Clean up our dirt please. thank you

and that bit

This next image is quite funny, well you see I was trying to help my Dad by sweeping some of the loose dirt and stones into a pile easier for the digger truck to pick up… and well see for youselves.

oops SORRY!

it’s ok we found another one, but this time mum did the sweeping.

Even Pebbles is getting in on the act.

Nans working up a sweat just watching haha

the last bit of dirt say “Goodbye Dirt” *Waves hankie*

I think this is sand…?

yeap just leave it there.

In goes the edges.

keep mixing

This is dedication

Moving the materials to use the wacker on it

I love the lighting in this

Last one of day two

Day Three – Saturday 11th September 2010

Filling the foundations

If only we had a bigger wheelbarrow

cheeky smile

OOPS!

Pebbles was walking in  ditches yesterday but today its cement! (and she did this twice as well)

Why not =) “BRUCE”

Day Four – Sunday 12th September 2010 – Day Five – Monday 13th September 2010

Okay so during day four and day five there didn’t seem like there was much going on but actually one length of the old driveway was cut out for putting in extra drainage pipe thingys… to help the water run off of the drive and down the drain I think I have a few pictures but like I said.. it doesn’t seem a lot in comparison to the first three days.

see it doesn’t seem alot but it did run all the way up the length of the drive way.

And thats about it for days four anf five

Day Six - Tuesday 14th September 2010

Looking good aye??

Just the fiddly bits to do now.

All those breeze blocks for the foundations

I like the black stripe

the bricks are running out!

messy isn’t it?

Tea and coffee?

Day Seven – Wednesday 15th September 2010

Okay so here’s another day where there isn’t going to be many pictures… the brick paving is being cut into place and well there is a lot of dust but apart from that there won’t be a drastic change in the build except the fact that the drive should be finished by the end of the day. I’ll try and take a few pictures without getting covered in dust!

If only you could hear noise through these photographs.

Dusty

It almost looks like fog

Its getting there

looks good doesn’t it =)

I hope it gets finished by the end of today!

Almost done

those poor defunked bricks hehe

so much dust.

This was soo noisey.

More dust

Almost done

Day Eight – Thursday 16th September 2010

Drive way is now finished woow

Black stripe looks good doesn’t it

sweeping the sand in between the bricks.

Sandy sanddd

Look at all those bricks :)

So much mess to clean up now..

I started to move all the bricks over by the fence to tidy up the drive a bit.

Loook seee I swept all the dirt and cleaned up by the side of the house, dad and I also put all the tops of the drains on up the drive way.

Kilroy!!! I see you

This took me about 2 hours to stack all these bricks up haha!

All clean!

Job done! time for a beer..

Day Nine – Friday 17th September 2010

Day Nine is the first day since the start that nothing is going on, it’s a rest day time to contemplate on what needs to be done tomorrow. By the sounds of it the blocks are going to be laid on the foundations of the office..

Day Ten – Saturday 18th September 2010

So much going on all at once

Laying down on the job already Jamie.

It’s starting to take shape already.

Is it level?

Mixing mixing mixing..

Tap it to the left a little

Don’t ask

This brick paving is finished off nicely!

It doesn’t look like he’s doing much but he is really

From the left.. Lee is just standing… “OBSERVER”, then Jamie is well I’m not too sure.. *cough cough* “PHALLIC” symbol. and Dad…. Put your builders bum away… “BOB THE BUILDER”

Hello….. Jamie??? are you in there?!??!

Oh there you are

FAG BRAKE!

It’s looking better every ten minutes.

More cutting… noise and dust

It  looks like a little fort haha

Tonight matthew I’m going to beeeee…..

Not much left to do tomorrow Jamie =)

Day Eleven – Sunday the 19th September 2010

Done! well the foundations that is

Bloody air bricks were hard to track down!

Just cleaning up the rest of the dirt by moving it into the foundations to try and level up the ground before the woodern frame sits ontop.

more dirt busting!

Like filling up a dirt pool!

Jamie just tucking in the concrete! Night night concrete.

Almost done

Last little bit to sweep up!

Day Twelve -Fourteenth – Monday 20th – Wednesday 22st September 2010

Nothing has really happened over these three days, just the general clean up and returning all the hired tools. Just need to find a home for the left over breeze blocks, Dad was thinking to put them along the wooden walk way up the side of the house, but not too high though as I don’t think the wood would take much weight. Not much has changed in these days so I guess it’s now a waiting game to work out how much wood we need to make the frame and the cladding around the edges… the price of all the materials needed such as, roof tiles, wood cladding, interior and exterior doors and windows! Then hopefully there will be a significant change with all the materials being delivered. It gets exciting when that happens almost like Christmas he he. But here are a few pictures in the mean time just to show you the clear up and what it looks like with a bit of weather added to it.

Day 25 – Sunday 3rd October 2010

Okay so as you may have guessed not much has been happening for a while due to a few things, Dad has had a lot of work on in London etc and he wasn’t too sure on how much wood and other materials that he might need for the frame, exterior and interior of the build as this is his first project. After spending near on £100 on screws alone here are days 25-32 which pretty much goes from nothing to the whole building near to completion.

Here is the flooring..now you can see the size of it,

400mm between each strut

hehe there is times when you need an extra hand for things like this, but if in doubt STAND ON IT!

Look at all those screws :)

You wouldn’t think that you could rest a whole building on these beams

All the wood that will be used to make the shell of the Office.

Day 26 – Mondayday 4th October 2010

So dad started to put up the frame.. all by himself

Sit down and take a look

Is anyone going to tell him that one bit isn’t straight??

time to get the top on!

It doesn’t look that tall but it really is!

Day 27 – Tuesday 5th October 2010

Almost three sides up… well done Dad

Thats my studio room :)

Day 28 – Wednesday 6th October 2010

All 4 sides complete, and starting on the roof!

Day 29 – Thursday 7th October 2010

First board up on the side…

Fence is now down it’s all going so quick now.

This is mine and my mum’s rooms :)

View from the garden

More pannelsssss

Now the whole back wall is completely boarded up! one side down three to go

At least theres alot of light inside haha

Day 31 – Saturday 9th October 2010

Yesterday was a rest day… but today was really good, Dad, my Uncle Ralph and my cousins husband Paul were all hands on. Whilst Dad and Ralph fitted all four windows, Paul was fitting the roof beams, so with all four windows now bought and fitted, and the roof beams in place the outside will be easy to start on.

Here are the four windows ready to be fitted

Dad and Ralph measuring up for the first window

Not that we need more light in there just yet :)

Taking out some uprights, kinda seems like a step backward but the window will slot in and around the noggins!

Dad’s just sawing the wood to fit under the window, then the window can sit ontop of it and get screwed in.

Windows on time to screw it in…

…recharging the batteries nearly every 30 minutes!

FIRST WINDOW IN WOO!

Second window getting measured for fitting.

This is “Pauls workshop” for the day haha

Window number 2 is in

I swear everytime Paul cut some wood with this machine it smelt like jacket potatoes haha!

Paul is starting to get the roof struts up.

here’s another phallic symbol lmao!

Looks like a massive hole for the third window.

window number 3 is in.

All four are now in…

Day 32 – Friday 10th October  2010

THE ROOF!

Haha, Dads got his muscles out again!

Roof is almost on

Starting to look wicked, dontcha think?

16 beams each side and fitted with boards ontop.

Day 33 – Monday 11th October 2010

THE ROOF!

Today dad cut the boards to shape and finished the roof, I then got up and helped him tack the waterproof membraine, there are alot of photos from today as there were so many little things that we did. If I didn’t take any photos you may not have even noticed the differences.

Trimming up the roof boards

Look at the concentration on his face haha

the front is almost done just got the back to do

there’s quite alot that needs sawing off

The roof is now covered in, lets just hope the rain doesn’t come in sideways!

do you seee the sawww

Then it falls off!

Nice clean edge… I wouldnt suggest running your finger over it though… splinter

Look dad cut off one of his legs haha!

well ello dad

He looks so far away haha

umm guys this is quite high… and this ladder isnt exactly very sturdy!

Pile of offcuts!

The last bit….

…and now its gone!

Im now sat on the roof… and dad is tacking the plastic…

soo sunny up here would be a great place to sun bathe!

see theres my shoeses!

Still tacking…

Roof has now been waterproofed!

End of day 33.. here’s me my dad and my nan!

the rest of the photos are going to be uploaded on here > OR COFFEE?

  1. This is the very first project that my son Bob has taken on. He has worked so hard. Sometimes from 7.00am until it is dark at night.I really don’t know how he does it considering he has his own business to run. If his Dad were alive he would be so proud of him to see what he has achieved. Needless to say I am also very, very proud. There are many more photos to be added as the build has come on in leaps and bounds. When you see the next lot of photos you will be so surprised. It certainly has taken shape over the past few days.

  2. It’s looking great dudette =]! x

  3. Nice one, mate. Looks awesome.
